2011 Fish Point Field Conditions
Field conditions throughout the Fish Point area this year have turned out to be really good considering the really late planting due to our wet, cold spring. The sharecropper started cutting corn early this week (9/26) and as of 9/28 was cutting the corn out of the 64-69 field. The new pumps have been working to fill the ditches with the fields soon to follow. Barring any disasters, the opener should be a good one with hopefully sufficient water throughout. As we get closer to October 8, it would be best to call the check station for up to the minute updates from MDNR staff on water levels.
Corn cover in all areas looks to have developed nicely and should provide plenty of cover to hide in. The exceptions are in the North field particularly zones 22, 23, 26, 29 and 32 where deer damage was imminent once again this year. The deer really take their toll up in that North field so plan accordingly. There may be some other questionable areas out there but nothing that I have heard of or seen.
Please feel free to email us anytime or contact us via PM on Michiganwaterfowl.com with any questions or concerns. We would be glad to help or get you in touch with someone who can help you out. Thanks!!
